Design and development of lithium-ion battery for brain implants with the support of the Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council at Amirkabir University of Technology
Researchers of Amirkabir University of Technology have designed and produced a new kind of lithium-ion battery for brain implants supported by the Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council.
Researchers of Amirkabir University of Technology have designed and produced a new kind of lithium-ion battery for brain implants supported by the Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council. Nowadays, Li-ion battery is used as one of the best suitable options for empowering implantable devices in the brain.
Dr. Mehran Javanbakht, the faculty member of Amirkabir University of Technology Department of Chemistry and executor of the research project, declared: a five-member team of researchers is involved in the implementation of this research project, which has progressed by 75% so far.
He also added: the project as a part of the national project of designing and making the system of brain implant which is supported by the council.
In this work, the lithium-ion battery made by researchers of Amirkabir University of Technology, is based on LiMnO2 using the pulse electro-chemical composition, for the first time worldwide, which made these batteries able to provide high power demand of implantable circuits and devices such as neuro-stimulators and its deep parts is for treatment and relief for central nervous disease such as Parkinson’s. Furthermore, the composite creates a desirable charge-discharge speed density with the discharge capacity of 153 mAh/g (2C), he stated.
