The first event of symposium side event series has been held at 25-26 of September, as "theoretical and practical workshop of introduction to basics of fMRI and MRI, and principles of fMRI data acquisition", with the goal of teaching theoretical and practical foundations in the field of functional magnetic resonance imaging. More than 15 people attended the workshop and Dr. Vahid Malekian and Shaghayegh Karimi were teaching at the workshop.

As it is in these workshops, participants must receive 75% of the theoretical exam score to be allowed in the practical part of the workshop.

The theoretical part of workshop contained headlines such as physical basics and the formation of an MRI image, functional MRI, physiology and source of the BOLD signal, different methods in fMRI data acquisition and related pulse sequences, a review on preprocessing of fMRI data and GLM model in functional data processing.

In the practical part, Participants got acquainted with the necessary hardware for imaging (coils, devices, etc.) and how to adjust the image parameters on the MRI scanner.
