Dr. Sanaz Ahmadi, neurologist, and fellowship of epilepsy, accomplished the first diagnosis of seizure focal area, in a medically resistant epilepsy case, by invasive electrode implantation in the subdural area.

After implanting the electrodes, in another hospital, the patient was hospitalized in the video EEG monitoring section in the Sina hospital, and by using LTM method, the seizure focal area in his brain was determined. Then, the tissue was removed from the patient’s head, with the help of neurosurgeon colleagues. The patient still hasn't experienced any seizures, but we need more time to be sure.

Dr. Ahmadi added: This method is not popular in our country yet, and has its own sensitivities and risks, such as infection and brain hemorrhage, which our patient didn't experience any of them. The advantage of this method is also in brain mapping. While brain mapping, the important centers in the brain, which are responsible for necessary functions, are identified so they can be preserved.
