Biofeedback is a treatment that has a history in mental health, with significant applications in the treatments of psychosomatic disorders. This workshop emphasized the teaching of two common types of biofeedback (Heart rate variability and surface electromyography). Since the EEG biofeedback is independently trained in other workshops, it was not addressed in this one.
The following topics were instructed by Dr. Reza Rostami and Dr. Reza Kazemi :
- History, types of biofeedback and biofeedback applications to enhance performance
- Basics of EMG and HRV biofeedback (History of HRV biofeedback, HRV frequencies, resonance frequency, polyvagal theory)
- Biofeedback application in psychiatric disorders
- Introduction to biofeedback device and its use in the treatment of anxiety and psychosomatic disorders (practical work with biofeedback’s hardware and software)
