Researchers at the polymer research Institute of Sahand University of Technology, Tabriz, during the construction of intrusive electrode arrays, have succeeded in designing a new type of four-stem intracerebral electrodes to increase the number of excitation and recording channels for a particular reduced amount of electrode width.
Dr. Kiumars Jalili, the head of the research team, supported by the Cognitive Sciences and Technology Council said: “to achieve a suitable and tissue- compatible mechanical design whilst achieving a high density of excitation and recording channels without an increase in the physical dimensions of electrodes leg, the suggested architecture consists of two layers of metal coating, which can be separated by a dielectric film.” He also added: the lower layer of these electrodes forms conductor tracks and upper layer acts as a carrier and stimulator pads, in such a way that the pads and tracks can be connected through a dielectric layer by buried paths.
