Researchers and scientists of the Neuroscience and Neuroengineering Lab in the Iran University of Science and Technology, by conducting a research project, were able to develop and build a brain-machine interface, based of stimulating peripheral sensory areas and deep brain areas.

Dr. Mohammadreza Daliri, a faculty member of the Iran University of Science and Technology, announced: the navigation and control of rat-robot using electrical brain stimulation project was conducted in this lab, by collaboration of a group of researchers and the support of Cognitive Sciences & Technologies Council.

He said: in this research project, that was supported by Cognitive Sciences & Technologies Council, for the first time in Iran, navigating and control system of rat robot was developed.

The suggested system detects the target points for electrical stimulation, and by implanting the electrodes in those points, the researchers are able to control the rat.

He added: in this study, a comprehensive evaluation of different methods for electrical stimulation of cortex and subcortex was done to induce artificial sense and control the rat.
