Syllabus:

Brief history, principles, mechanism of action, measures of cortical excitability

  • Background about early development of TMS and brain stimulation therapies
  • Modulatory effects of TMS on neuronal firing rates
  • Indexes of cortical excitability (ICI, ICF)

 

TMS Safety issues and Protocols

  • A review of the latest (3rd) clinical guideline
  • Introduction to TMS safety tables for selecting appropriate parameters and protocols
  • Potential side effects
  • Applications of TMS in pediatric population and during pregnancy
  • Different TMS techniques
  • Introduction to TMS parameters (frequency, intensity, number of pulses, etc.)
  • Introduction to theta burst stimulation
  • Introduction to motor threshold and its applications in TMS research

 

TMS applications in psychiatric disorders

  • Some notes about three FDA approved application of TMS in psychiatric disorders (depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, migraine)
  • Off label use of TMS in psychiatric disorders
