tDCS

tES is a generic term that contains several techniques including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS), or transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS). All these techniques deliver a weak electrical current through two or more conductive electrodes which are put over the scalp. Electrodes have various shape and size and can be put over the scalp based on different montages. tDCS is the most common modality of tES and has been increasingly used in various brain mapping research in the last 15 years. tACS, on the other hand, has recently brought new exciting oscillatory-based ideas into brain mapping studies.

Applications of Electrical stimulation:

  • Depression
  • Migraine
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Risk-seeking behavior (Addiction, alcohol, cigarettes.)
  • Improve cognitive abilities (Memory, learning…)
  • Schizophrenia, Tinnitus…
