The ‘Familiarity whit theoretical and practical foundation of MRI and fMRI and the principles of obtaining fMRI data’ workshop was held at National Brain Mapping Laboratory on May 12 and 13, 2018.

It has two theory and practical sessions and after passing the test from the theory (to gain the 75% of the test score), participants were practically learned the topics. In order to maximize the efficiency of the workshop, the capacity of only 8 people was considered.

Lecturers:

  • Dr. Vahid Malekian (Amir Kabir University)
  • Shaghayegh Karimi (NBML MRI Lab. specialist)

Topics:

Theoretical section:

  • Fundamentals of MRI Physics
  • Image forming in MRI
  • Functional MRI (fMRI)
  • Physiology and origin of the BOLD signal
  • Types of fMRI data acquisition and associated pulse sequences
  • A Review of functional data preprocessing techniques and the GLM model in functional data processing

Practical section:

  • Familiarity with the necessary hardware for imagimg (coils, devices, etc.)
  • Adjusting the imaging parameters on the MRI scanner
  • Design a functional testing session
  • Set up imaging parameters for functional data acquisition and acquisition of a task-oriented data sampling
